Hofner Verythin Custom (Karl)

This is one of Karl's two thinline semi-hollowbody guitars. We have evidence of one appearance of him with it, at Southside in 2014. Based on the fact that just a year later he started using his Yamaha SA2200, he probably prefers that as his semi-hollowbody. This guitar is a Höfner Verythin Custom, and therefore we do not know too much about it regarding specs. It has a special combination of the lyra tailpiece with the f-holes, which you cannot find in the standard Höfner Verythins. In addition, the single-coil pickup at the neck is very untypical for Höfner - using exclusively humbuckers on their Verythins. However, Karl does appear to prefer single-coil pickups, documented through his extensive usage of Telecasters and Stratocasters. Regarding the controls, there appears to be 1 volume and 1 tone, as is standard. Then you have a 3-way pickup selector toggle at the horn, for pickup confgurations. That leaves the small switch with the other controls. Here, we assume that this switch controls the humbucker at the bridge and provides the option to switch off one of the coils, transforming it into a single-coil. This is also a feature available on his Yamaha SA2200, and with Karl's preference for single-coil pickups we think this the likely function of the toggle. Höfner also offers this feature for their Verythin Classic guitars. For more information on Höfner guitars, visit Vintage Hofner.
